A vented dirt crawlspace in Dryden, NY was leading the home owners to notice odors and excessive moisture coming from under their house. Concerns about the air quality in their home as well as worry about the structure, brought them to Woodford Brothers via an internet search. The home owners contacted Woodford Brothers and scheduled their free estimate. One of our expert Design Specialists, Nick, climbed into the crawlspace after asking some key questions to find out what the home owners were looking to accomplish. Nick learned about the excessive ,moisture and the cold floors above the crawlspace. Upon completing his inspection, he gathered the exact reasons for the issues that have been causing concern. He promptly sat down with the home owners with his computer to illustrate what was causing the moisture and cold floors. By encapsulating the crawlspace with Cleanspace, no outside air would be allowed in to drive up the humidity. The addition of the Sanidry Sedona was the perfect solution to maintain the proper humidity in the space. Before installing the Cleanspace the crew, led by Zach, installed TerraBlock insulation on the floor and SilverGlo insulation on the foundation walls. The addition of the insulation materials ensures that the floors above the crawlspace will not feel cold while occupying the room above the crawlspace. This Dryden home owner tested for radon and the result was higher than 4 pCi/L. Since the basement is used quite often it was important to mitigate the radon to regain peace of mind. At the time of the free estimate one of our expert radon System Design Specialists provided a thorough inspection to determine the best way to guarantee a reduction below 4 pCi/L. When it comes to sub-slab depressurization (the most common method of radon mitigation) it is extremely important to seal up any cracks or opening in the concrete slab to ensure a tight seal so that a vacuum can be maintained under the slab. The vacuum underneath the concrete slab basement floor is what allows the radon gas to be rerouted to the outdoor space. In this case, there were plenty of cracks in the floor that would break the seal so we used NexusPro, a specially formulated concrete crack sealer, to close all the gaps. Now the radon is under control and peace of mind is restored.
