They do things the right way, never take shortcuts. The whole idea is always about being honest. Even when we give a customer a free estimate, we tell them upfront everything we will do to fix the problem.
That brings me to Seneca Falls, NY. Last Tuesday I was helping clean out my Wife’s grandfather’s home. He passed away a few years back, and we were helping my wife’s grandmother. That’s when I stumbled upon how much the Woodford name meant to customers.
My wife’s grandfather was a proud farmer who took pride in working the land. He took care of his John Deere tractors, beef cows and chickens. Her grandfather loved his chickens. He believed in doing things the right way. That was the type of farmer my wife’s grandfather was. He didn’t take short cuts and knew the value of hard work. That’s why I wasn’t surprised to find what I did in a box labeled important. The box was an old filling box, that was white with “IMPORTANT” written by a Sharpie marker on the top. You could tell this box was valued because important wasn’t scribbled, but neatly written in bold letters.
Right there inside the box labeled important, I found it. A proud farmer had kept it all these years because he placed value in it. What is it your wondering? An estimate from Woodford Bros., Inc. The date on the Estimate was May 13, 1983. The estimate was for fixing a foundation at a total cost of $6300. The job for Woodford standards was a simple one. Shore up a foundation of an aging structure. This wasn’t the first job we had done for my Wife’s Grandfather and clearly wouldn’t be the last.
At first glance, this seemed like a weird thing to be in a box labeled important. But then I started thinking. This proud farmer kept the things that had value to him. The Woodford name is value. He only worked with people who did honest work, and Woodford meant something to him. Like other names he grew to trust over the years from John Deere to Ford, Woodford had value. This wasn’t an estimate but a promise of a problem fixed for good!
